P.E at Castledyke Primary School is a very popular subject. In a recent School Council poll, P.E came top of the list throughout all year groups in the school. All pupils participate in a minimum two hours per week high quality P.E, where pupils can use communicational & leadership skills sometimes not utilised in classroom based lessons. All sessions are varied & differentiated as to match the level of ability of the learner. Gifted & Talented are encouraged to become ‘Play Leaders’ & individuals with gross & fine motor deficiencies are offered extra sessions.

In a typical year pupils can expect to participate in a wide range of different & challenging activities including Gymnastics (floor & apparatus), Dance, Net/Court & Wall Games, Invasion Games, Field Games, Striking & Fielding Games, O.A.A, Orienteering, Athletics, Bikeability (Y6) & Swimming (Y4).

Working closely alongside the Baysgarth School Sports Partnership, Castledyke Primary School is striving to create strong school to club links, in an attempt to meet future aspirations of the Government of five hours physical activity per week, for every child. Such clubs include Football, Cricket, Athletics, Cheerleading & Sailing. In addition to pupil’s normal P.E sessions, after school & lunchtime clubs are organised all year round including, Football, Skipping, Gymnastics, Field Games, Netball & many more.

Inter-School competitions & festivals are organised with great regularity by the Baysgarth School Sports Partnership, enabling pupils to compete against other schools to develop their skills & confidence further. Castledyke Primary School can boast great success & achievement from such events. Annually there are numerous Intra-School events including Football Tournaments, Sports Days, residential trips to Winmarleigh Hall (Outdoor Pursuits Centre) & RAF camping on the school field.
Castledyke Primary School’s hard work & dedication in P.E has been recognised by been awarded Heathly Schools Award 2006-2009 & Active Mark 2007 & 2008 for exceptional delivery of the National School Sport Strategy.
